Improvisation was central to Baroque music and remains at the heart of jazz today. In Baroque to Bop, guitarist Peter Doublinszki and double bassist Elsen Price explore this enduring creative tradition through music by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Handel, the Modern Jazz Quartet, Charlie Parker, and original compositions.
Drawing inspiration from historical performance practice as well as modern improvisation, the duo reimagines familiar repertoire through ornamentation, spontaneous variation, and creative interaction. The result is a program that reveals unexpected connections between musical traditions often viewed as separate, inviting audiences to hear both Baroque music and jazz with fresh ears.
Combining virtuosity, spontaneity, and engaging commentary, Baroque to Bop celebrates improvisation as a living art form linking past and present.

Budapest-born guitarist Peter Doublinszki has performed throughout Europe, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Australia as a soloist and chamber musician. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is recognised for performances that combine classical tradition, improvisation, and creative exploration.

Elsen Price is one of Australia's most versatile double bassists, performing regularly across classical, jazz, and contemporary music. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium, he has appeared with leading ensembles and artists throughout Australia and internationally.

Together, Doublinszki & Price create performances that combine virtuosity, spontaneity, and thoughtful programming, offering audiences a fresh perspective on familiar musical traditions.
